Our annual book prize reading celebrates the winner of a contest run by our partner, Cave Canem, the nation’s foremost poetry organization supporting Black poets. Join online to celebrate Cave Canem 2023 prize winner Zaynab Iliyasu Bobi! She is joined by contest judge Tara Betts.

Zaynab Iliyasu Bobi, Frontier I, is a Nigerian-Hausa poet, digital
artist, and photographer. She graduated from the School of Medical
Laboratory Science at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. She is the
author of the forthcoming chapbook Sixteen Songs of Loss—selected
as a finalist by Rita Mookerjee for the Sundress Publications Chapbook
Competition—and the winner of the inaugural Folorunsho Editor’s Poetry
Prize, the Labari Poetry Prize, the inaugural Akachi Chukwuemeka Prize
for Literature, and the Gimba Suleiman Hassan Gimba ESQ Poetry Prize.
Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Strange Horizons, Fiyah Literary Magazine, Uncanny Magazine, Fantasy Magazine, Agbowo, The Deadlands, Torch Literary Arts, Arc Poetry Magazine, Ake Review, Native Skin, The Drift, Lucent Dreaming, 20.35 Africa, Canthius, Trampset, and elsewhere.
